First ski
The lifts opened today and we were all out in force. The snow was quite hard but softened up in the sun. There are about 16 pistes open on Rochebrune and Mont D'Arbois and some on Jaillet, but we have not been there yet. We have five total beginners (one in a board so he was struggling ) and one who has skied one week some years ago. They all did brilliantly. The three boys were skiing the Grand Champs after about an hour on the nursery slopes. All the skiers managed the button lift. It was very rewarding to see them coming on so quickly and enjoying themselves.
Megeve is in full holiday mood. There are lots of people in town and no room in our apartment block's car park!

Ice Hockey
Last night all 19 of us (well Gordon and Carol are almost staff) went to the GB v France ice hockey match at the Palais de Sport. It was very exciting. By the end of the second session France led 3-2 so we thought that was it for the third session. Not a bit of it! GB came back fighting, levelled the match and then went into the lead with about ten minutes left. So the last few minutes the French were desperately throwing everything they had into the match. They even took the goalie off so they could field an extra attacker. But GB hung on and we got to sing the National Anthem very loudly and enthusiastically. The last time I did that was for the men's eights at the World Rowing Championships in September. So a great start to the season

SNOW, SNOW, SNOW, SNOW, SNOW!!!!
Excuse our enthusiasm, but we can barely contain ourselves at Stanford HQ this week - There has been a phenomenal amount of snow in Megeve and we can't wait to get out with our skis on!
With only three weeks to go until our first guests arrive it's a dead cert that the pistes will be ready and waiting. With more snow forecast, minus figures at night keeping it frozen, the snow ploughs already out grooming and the snow cannons blasting 24/7, expect an excellent base throughout this Winter...
If you want to join us, we're offering brilliant savings with our White Week offer from Mon 23rd November to Sat 28th November. Take 10% off week breaks and 5% off short breaks and ski weekends, starting from just £340!*
If you're nervous about Christmas flight prices, check the Easyjet website. Starting from £31.49/person one way in December, there's plenty on offer. So not only can you get snow and great value accommodation but getting there won't cost an arm and a leg either
Need to see for yourself? This link will take you through to the recently updated Megeve Tourist Office website, with live webcam images from resort - it's the first thing we check every day to get us in the mood
So come on! Give us a call and get booked in. You will not regret it

Get the Wax Out & the Skis Tuned, Snow is Falling in Megeve!
These pics were taken on Monday in the town and it's only mid-October. Certainly enough to get us in the mood. Can't wait for the season to start, just 9 weeks to go!
We've got plenty of space for Christmas week so if you fancy whooshing down the pistes this year, enjoying ice sculptures, vin chaud, Christmas trees and fairy lights in the town square instead of gazing at the grey drizzle, then book now. As a little extra, prices are discounted by 10%!
Fancy an early season break but can't get away for the whole Christmas period? Why not come for a short break pre-Christmas and grab an early blast on the pistes!
Hellos and Goodbyes
It is with great sadness that we have to say goodbye to Jonny & Tracey who have been our resort manager's for the last two years. They have been great members of staff and I know they have gone a long way to helping you to have a fantastic holiday. They have decided to move back to the UK but don't worry, Jonny has left his ski gear in the Sylvana so no doubt they'll be out whizzing down the slopes soon!
It is with great pleasure that I can introduce to you Rory as our new resort manager and Amy who will be managing our chalet/hotel Rond Point. They have both spent the summer season out in Megeve with Jonny & Tracey and are champing at the bit to get stuck in to the winter. As you can see, they're out in Megeve now enjoying the first signs of winter! They both look forward to meeting you and welcoming you to Megeve.
New On-Line Booking System!
Yes, we're finally getting into the on-line era, it's taken a while! Now you can put a room on option via our new on-line booking system for 48 hours whilst you look at flights. Then just give us a call with the deposit or do a bank transfer and you're all booked in!
Don't forget we offer ski weekends as well as week holidays in catered chalets, chalet/hotels, self-catered apartments and hotels. The transfer time is just 75 mins so ideal for short getaways!
We look forward to welcoming you to Megeve this winter season. Email us at info@stanfordskiing.co.uk or give us a call on 01603 477471 to speak to one of our friendly and knowledgeable Megeve experts!
With best wishes until then, Elizabeth, John, Debbie, Sarah and Rachel

What's new for Megeve this season?
Good afternoon all!
I'm sat here in our U.K office looking out of the window at glorious sunshine and it's seems hard to imagine that Winter is on it's way. However it is... with the reminder here being the stream of emails and phone calls from people who are staying or looking to stay with us this season in Megève *excited*
So while I have the chance, I'll update you with what's new this season - as ever there's plenty to share about our most favourite place in the world!
New investment ahead for Megève’s lift system
The SEM Compagnie du Mont-Blanc, Chamonix lift operator, are finalising discussions with Megève to take over the running of the Megève lift system. The deal is expected to be signed in the next few weeks and long overdue investment and new lifts have been promised. As a first step Megève is included in the Mont Blanc Unlimited Skipass covering Chamonix, Courmayeur and Verbier. They hope to be building new lifts next summer. Watch this space…
4 Season Luge for Megève
A new 4 season luge will be operational by the winter promising a great apres ski activity for all. Running on rails the new luge will be open all weathers and in the evenings as well as the day time. Great fun for all and I for one can't wait to use my kids as an excuse to have a try
International Jazz festival
Also new for this winter is an international Jazz festival from 24-27 March. So combine glorious spring skiing with great apres ski.
No More L’Alpette – for now!
Sad news from Megève. The highly regarded restaurant L’Alpette has suffered a catastrophic fire and has burnt to the ground. Fortunately no-one was injured as the fire started at 4am. The owners have promised to re-build but not in time for this winter. Don’t worry, there are plenty of other wonderful restaurants in Megève!
Megève has a charming medieval pedestrianised village centre with bars, boutiques, a jazz club and casino. There are no mass-market operators because the hotels are small and individual and simply can’t accommodate hordes of guests. We specialize in Megève as a family run company owning and operating our own chalets as well as offering a transfer service to and from Geneva airport. This seasons prices start from just £490 per week!
Our short breaks are also very popular with Geneva being only 75 minutes away - from only £310 for 3 nights in a catered chalet. Unbeatable! With offers and great prices throughout the season, why not get in touch to see if we can find you the escape you deserve this Winter - we're ready and waiting for your call!
With best wishes until then

Come to Megeve this winter with Stanford Skiing!
Why should you chose Stanford Skiing for your winter ski holiday? Here are a few facts that may sway you. Take a read, share with your friends and book your ski holiday now!
1. We’re an independent, family run company. Because we’re family run, your bookings matter. Yes, you do get a reservation number but that’s where the anonymity stops. EVERY customer counts for us. From your first contact with the ladies in our UK office, to your transfer back to Geneva airport with Santa (Yes, we really do have a driver called Santa!) every second of your holiday will be tailored to your needs and we will do our very best to meet them.
2. We've been based in Megeve for 25+ years and we really do know Megeve as well as the locals. In fact Director Elizabeth worked as a chalet girl in our catered chalet Sylvana, some 20 ish (ahem!) years ago. Her parent John and Kathryn have a home in the resort and are keen skiers themselves. Winter staff are based in the resort all season and even the UK staff visit at least once a year with their families. You have a question, we can answer it from our own experiences or find someone who can.
3. Because Megeve is STUNNING! Seriously, you couldn't ask to be anywhere more beautiful. Surrounded with jagged, snow covered mountain peaks, the cobble lined streets edged with a tempting range of quaint French boutiques, cafes and restaurants are hard to beat. That is until you journey up in one of the cable cars, look down at the empty tree lined pistes covered in fresh white powder below and realise that you’ll be cutting your way back down them shortly. Shall I carry on?!
4. Because holidays with us are awesome. There’s no pressure – this is your break and we want you to have a good time! Our customers range from babies through to OAP's. We have single, twin/doubles, family rooms or even whole chalet hire so come alone or bring all your friends and family. We accommodate first time skiers through to old school off pisters – with 445k of slopes to choose from there’s plenty of scope for skiers of all levels. If its peace and quiet you’re after, head up a mountain or retreat to a spa! If you’re looking for après ski, head in to town and visit the funky bars, restaurants and clubs. Basically, it’s all in Megeve so whatever you're looking for, we've got. Give us the time and we can tell you all about it...
5. We’re affordable. Skiing is no longer an exclusive pastime for the rich elite, everyone’s at it! Don’t get me wrong, it can be expensive if not approached carefully, but we do offer a very good option for those that look for great value. Our chalet Sylvana and hotel Rond Point are both 1/2* and the price reflects that. They are warm, relaxed, homely, authentic and offer a perfect retreat after a day on the slopes. If you’re looking for a little more luxury, out catered chalet Les Clochettes is our superior option, with a minimal increase in price. Being catered means that we’ll cook you breakfast, afternoon tea and a hearty evening meal with wine - so no extra food costs to worry about. Call us before you book your flights and we’ll help you coincide your arrival and departure times with our free morning transfer service so no extra travel costs. We've struck up deals with the local ski hire shops, so you can save 10% off the cost of your equipment and the Evasion ski pass is one of the cheapest on offer in the Alps.
6. Megeve does have snow. There is the occasional review on the www that may tell you being a low resort equates no skiing. This is wrong. Being situated close to Mont Blanc means that Megeve sits in its own little snowy micro climate. Yes, don’t expect season round snow at town level but for those heel wearers amongst us, this is no bad thing! Head up onto Rochbrune, Mont D’Arbois, Mont Joly, and Cotes 2000 (to name but a few) and you’ll be transported to a winter wonderland. In the very worst case scenario and Mother Nature withholds, we offer a ‘snow guarantee’ that can be purchased in advance of your trip for just £10. This agreement means we will transport you across to the nearest skiable pistes so you still get your fix. Remember, it’s in our interest to keep you happy! Note that the pistes sit on what it meadowland at summertime – it only takes a few centimetres of snow to make them usable. Did I mention the 175 snow cannons that can be used too? Don’t worry. There’s snow!
7. Because skiing is one of the safest sports you can do. If you don’t believe me read this survey conducted by the Guardian newspaper. It states in a study of skiers in Norway, a medical officer documented 883 injuries over 980,000 days - amounting to an injury rate of around 0.9 per 1,000 days. The reality is that you’re more likely to have an accident going about your daily life. Wear your protective gear, don’t go off piste unless with a guide. Be sensible, go at your own pace. Easy on the vin chaud! It’s not rocket science and with a sensible approach, skiing will be one of the most rewarding pursuits you’ll ever take part in.
I think I could go on giving you reasons for quite some time. But to save overdoing my point, how about you give us a call on 01603 477471 or ping across an email so we can share our enthusiasm with you for what is one of the world’s most glorious pastimes in one of the most amazing resorts!
Hope to hear from you soon,
