Back for Christmas to gloomy UK.  Spent the last four days skiing powder in Megeve.  The whole resort is now open.  We've even seen the new link "lift" to Jaillet (horse drawn caleche).  Very smart!  We haven't been on it yet, we'll save that for when we get back after Christmas.  We had lunch at the Radaz.  It's still as good as usual.  Great lasagna and tartiflette.  Looking forward to Christmas here and then back to Megeve on 28th.
We've got some good deals left for early Jan so take advantage of the great conditions now!
See you out there!

Just back from Megeve

Just back from staff set up in Megeve.  Great team this year all mucking in and getting the job done.  We got ahead of ourselves so sneaked in a quick ski yesterday.  Lots of new snow on Rochebrune.  It was still snowing when I left.  Found some fresh powder down the Olympic so got my ski legs back in that.  I feel a bit achy today.  It's amazing that however much ski prep you do it really doesn't seem to make much difference once you get out there.  Several of the staff are beginners and they all had a great time in their lessons.  It's lovely to see new skiers come to the sport.  Anyway, a great team.  The chefs have been doing some superb meals for us and I'm really looking forward to getting back out there at New Year.  Nose back to the grind stone here in the UK though first!

Staff arrived and digging

Chalet hotel Rond Point

Digging out the back of the Rond Point
Jason & some of the staff arrived on Tuesday evening and have spent most of the time digging!  Our first guests arrive on 20th December for a pre-Christmas break.  Lots of snow for them and hopefully a clear car park.

The sun came out briefly

More Snow - Great Start

50cm of snow in the Sylvana car park and snow is still falling.  There's another 50cm forecast overnight at village level and then snowing off and on for the next few days.  Our french accountant says it's the best pre-season snow he's ever seen!  Jason is on his way out there - good luck getting up the hill, Jase!  I'm out there next week, can't wait.  Should be a great start to the season.
We're quite full for short ski breaks at the end of the week in January but have plenty of availability at the start so if you fancy catching some of the white stuff, then think about coming out then -it's cheaper as are flights, there's no staff night off so dinner every night, you can join in the accompanied skiing and we're offering a free one-way shared transfer.
See you out there!

More Snow & Chilly!

See the pic below from the Mont d'Arbois webcam for views of snowy Megeve.  There's more snowforecast on Sunday down to 400m and then "heavy snow forecast even in the lower valleys" on Tuesday.  Looking good for the beginning of the season!  We are running some pre-Christmas short ski breaks and we do have availability w/c 6th Jan for week stays or ski weekends.  So, why not blow away the cobwebs after all the festivities and get 2013 off to a great start!

Staff heading out in only 4 weeks!

The staff are heading out to Megeve in only four weeks time - in fact, some will be going out in just two weeks!  Can you believe that the season is only just around the corner.  It has been cold out there and has snowed several times, so hopefully it'll be a good start and lots of lovely skiing!  We're already completely full over Christmas and New Year except for three rooms for a short ski break from Sunday 30th Dec for 3 days in the Sylvana so call asap if you want them.
Flights are horrible over half term.  It looks like the only real option now is to drive.  Having said that, it is a very easy drive, motorways all the way except for the last 10k.  Don't forget that we do offer ski weekends and short ski breaks as well in half term so if the flights are too much returning on Sunday then you could always go for half a week, flight costs will be a lot less mid-week.  See prices.
Our superior ski chalet Les Clochettes is nearly full now throughout the season.  We just have a few rooms left w/c 6th Jan,  10th Feb & 17th March for full weeks.  There are some ski weekends and short ski breaks left at other times but not a lot so do get in touch if you're thinking of going to this chalet as there is not much left.
We look forward to hearing from you soon.
Best wishes,
Elizabeth, John, Georgie and Debra

More Snow + last availability Christ/NY

There's been loads more snow over the weekend in Megeve down to the village.  In fact the webcam of the lake at Combloux even shows a smattering down there.  Looking forward to getting out there with the staff at the beginning of December.  Then out for a proper hol at New Year.
We have only two rooms left now for the full week at New Year.  There are some bits and bobs left over throughout Christmas and New Year.  We have a few rooms available for short ski breaks between 20th and 26th Dec (dates can be flexible i.e. 22nd/23rd to 26th if prefered) in our catered chalet/hotel Sylvana and in our superior self-catered apartment le Roseau (sleeps 6-8).  Then three rooms in our catered chalet/hotel Rond Point from Dec 27th to 30th or if you'd like to extend over New Year, we can offer up to 2nd Jan with a room change.  That's it, when it's gone it's gone so call now!

Emile Allais - the grandfather of racing dies

Emile Allais, the skiing legend, who was born in Megeve has died aged 100 years old.  Winner of multiple medals in various World Championships and a bronze at the 1936 Olympics he was a true Megeve Champion.  He has given his name to the Emile Allais piste which used to be the Megeve downhill race track and the thought of flying straight down it is fairly nerve wracking!  He was skiing up until the age of 99 years old and lived with his family in Megeve.  For a great article on Emile Allais see

Now full at Christmas

We are now completely full at Christmas for full week holidays.  We still have some rooms left for ski weekends and short ski breaks so escape the dull, greyness of the UK and instead head for the snowy pistes of Megeve.  Megeve is glorious at Christmas with fairy lights, ice sculptures, Santa in his grotto and of course Christmas dinner, log fires and carols in our catered chalets.  We have a few rooms left for New Year week but they are going fast.  We still have pre Christmas short breaks available, so please call.

Just learning!

Stanford Skiing are now blogging!  Not sure how it's going to go but we'll give it a whirl.  We've recruited excellent chefs for our chalets in Megeve for this year and are looking for one more to complete our recruiting.
